Summer Parties

Written by Rudy on July 27, 2011 - 8:52 am -

This is the newest Rudy Report, unless you forgot to read the reports for a couple of days, which would naturally make this an older report (Are you following me?), today on "National Sunglasses Day." Summer is a great time to go out and party. Big cities have great nightlife to offer. However, you can even have a nice time in rural areas by going to one of the "Fantastic Disco Klubs"...

There will be lots of moves and talk regarding player trades and free agency in a busy NFL week. Striker Sergio Aguero may sign a contract with Manchester City in the next few days. Carlos Beltran would like to join the Giants or the Phillies. The Yankees beat Seattle. And, in softball, the Mets beat Cincinnati.

The Rudy Report says Happy Birthday to Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez, Shannon Moore, Shea Hillenbrand, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, and British competitive Scrabble legend Allan Simmons. On this day in 1866, the Atlantic Cable was successfully completed, allowing transatlantic telegraph communications for the first time. Have a great day, there is no new Dear Rudy at the moment, but learn something very interesting about the Earth in the Random Fact section!

Having A Plan - Los Angeles officials have created a financing plan to build a downtown NFL stadium, which is expected to generate revenues for the city. Read here.

Under Construction

Written by Rudy on July 26, 2011 - 4:37 am -

It is July 26th, and you know what that means... that's right, it doesn't mean anything, which is a pretty neutral statement for Rudy Report standards, especially in the first sentence, today on "National All or Nothing Day." Summer is the time for construction work and with the economy improving, there is a lot more to do now. That can result in a shortage of heavy machinery, which means that workers have to get creative...

Barcelona is still interested in Arsenal London star Cesc Fabregas, but no deal seems to be imminent. Other than that, the NFL Lockout has ended as expected. And, in baseball, the Yankees beat Seattle, while the Mets had a win against Cincinnati.

The Rudy Report says Happy Birthday to Delonte West (if you don't know him, then LeBron James' mom knows him for sure), Maicon, Joe Smith, and Canadian poker legend Daniel "Kid Poker" Negreanu. On this day in 1745, the first recorded women's cricket match took place in Guildford, England. Have a great day, there is currently no new Dear Rudy, but you can learn something about stars in the Random Fact section!

Talk To The Enemy - A judge has ruled that Frank McCourt needs to talk to Major League Baseball regarding a loan to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Read here.

Growth Proposition - The owner of the New York Islanders is arguing that a new arena is important to the growth of the Long Island economy. Read here.

City Guide 2011

Written by Rudy on July 25, 2011 - 2:15 am -

The Rudy Report is entering the last full week of reporting before its Annual Summer Break (starting August 3rd), but don't let this dampen your mood, today on "National Summer Leisure Day." As you know, the Rudy Report has introduced you to many cities over the years. France has been a focus in particular. We got to know the town of "Condom" and the appropriately named city of Toulouse (English translation: To Lose). Well, here is another aptly named town...

Several basketball stars may play abroad if the NBA lockout persists. Kobe Bryant is in serious talks with a Turkish club, for example. Barcelona has signed Udinese striker Alexis Sanchez for $54 million. Cadel Evans became the first Australian to win the Tour de France. Brett Favre may un-retire from American Football for the 100th time. And, in baseball, the Yankees beat Oakland, while the Mets lost against Florida.

The Rudy Report says Happy Birthday to Billy Wagner, Tracy Murray, Kenzo Suzuki, Doug Drabek, and Norwegian soccer refereeing master Tommy Skjerven (Who could ever forget his officiating performance in the 2002 cup final between Odd Grenland and Vålerenga?!?!). On this day in 1917, Sir Thomas Whyte introduced the first income tax in Canada as a "temporary" measure. Canada is wondering: "When will that measure end???" Have a great week, there is no new Dear Rudy at the moment, but find out why dogs love Sao Paolo in the Random Fact section!

Taxing Issue - The court case regarding the Los Angeles Dodgers is revealing new facts about the franchise, such as an inquiry by the IRS. Read here.

Most readers actually fear the weekends, because it means that they have to go without a Rudy Report for two straight days, which is why we put an extra effort into the Weekend Edition, today on "National Pi Approximation Day." There is always a discussion whether graffiti is a kind of vandalism or art. Some people like, and some don't. Well, either way, sprayers seem to be winning the fight...

There are no sports news today due to Rudy's global travels, working hard to make this report better each and every time.

The Rudy Report says Happy Birthday to Steven Jackson, Dirk Kuyt, Keyshawn Johnson, Sergei Zubov, Shawn Michaels, Sparky Lyle, and Finnish long distance running hero Lasse Viren. On this day in 1990, the 90th US Golf Amateur Championship was won by Phil Mickelson. Have a great weekend, there is no new Dear Rudy right now, but you can learn something about flies in the Random Fact section!

The Rudy Report wants you to be strong again, because we are anticipating our annual "Summer Break" (to some it's even their favorite time of year) in about two weeks, so get ready, today on "National Junk Food Day." And since it's National Junk Food Day, let's all have a good time and go to one of the many fast food restaurants. Rudy likes Shake Shack. Dyslexic people like McDonald's...

The Rudy Report will feature a shortened version without sports news on Friday due to traveling, returning to the regular version on Monday. The Phillies and Red Sox are reportedly interested in signing Mets player Carlos Beltran. The Cincinnati Reds also seem to be ready to make some big trades. The move of Carlos Tevez from Manchester City to Corinthians has collapsed. And, Chinese basketball star Yao Ming has announced his retirement.

The Rudy Report says Happy Birthday to DeAndre Jordan (stupid name), Vakeaton Quamar "Von" Wafer (even stupider name), CC Sabathia, Kellen Winslow, Brandi Chastain, and (East) German ski jumping legend Jens Weissflog. On this day in 1983, the world's lowest temperature was recorded at Vostok Station, Antarctica at −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F). Have a great day, there is still the Dear Rudy about golf, and learn something about ocean depths in the Random Fact section!
